In order to apply for Ordinary Paternity Leave (OPL) the Service Person must complete both JPA N005 and JPA R006, and return them to USA SpGp along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate. The forms are then forwarded on to Glasgow for processing and they will enter the leave entitlement onto the SPs leave account. A leave application can then be submitted on JPA.

Relocation Leave is an authorised period of absence granted to Service personnel on assignment between or within theatres, or from one overseas location to another overseas location. Relocation Leave is in addition to Individual Leave Allowance. Relocation leave is granted to facilitate the settling in/relocation process for personnel and their dependants. Relocation Leave is to be set against the losing unit’s establishment, although this may be varied if both units agree, and should be taken into account when specifying reporting dates on individual permanent assignment orders.
Relocation Leave is normally to be taken immediately prior to finally starting work at the new unit. On assignments between theatres, or from one overseas location to another overseas location, on a permanent assignment, 10 working days Relocation Leave will be granted. Personnel who are, for Service reasons, unable to complete their domestic move and take the full amount of Relocation Leave authorised by their CO before the start of the assignment, may, at the discretion of the gaining CO, defer the outstanding balance of Relocation Leave. The leave is to be taken as soon as practicable and, in any event, not more than six months after the date of relocation.
Service Person’s assigned to the USA are to be aware that on periods of Relocation Leave they will not be in receipt of Living Overseas Allowance (LOA). Relocation Leave is deemed as leave periods so allowances will cease from day 1 of Relocation Leave. This is an automated function through JPA that will cease this allowance. When Service Person’s come to depart the USA, their LOA will also cease to be paid on periods of Relocation Leave prior to relocating to their new assignment.
Requests to Carry Over in Excess Leave
For the 2020-21 year only, the carry over in excess leave has been increased from 15 days to 30. Any person wishing to carry over more than 30 days of leave into the following leave period must complete the necessary form following e-mail notification from the BDSUS SpGp on timings and process.
