Appraisals
Personnel who are administered by the SpGp will have their OJAR/SJAR raised by Personnel Military Manager (PMM) BDSUS-SG-Pers-Team-Mailbox@mod.gov.uk (Sqns and units through their own HR staffs). Personnel should note the following;
Annual Reporting Dates. Subjects are posted into the BDSUS footprint at different times of the calendar year, therefore Subjects and 1st ROs are to establish the correct dates for new reporting periods on the Subject’s arrival. The BDSUS PMM is to act as the central point of contact, and lead, for establishing the correct dates. Personnel should also consult the PMM if their 1st RO is being assigned away from their post/reporting responsibilities.
Mid Period Appraisal Reports (MPARs). MPARs are a shared responsibility between the Subject and the 1st RO. Whilst it is recognised that regular face to face contact for some personnel is difficult within the BDSUS footprint, all efforts should be made by Subject and RO to stay in regular communication. MPARs are not limited to one per year and, in that context, ROs are strongly encouraged to actively manage performance and to provide regular feedback to Subjects either formally or informally, throughout the year. 1 ROs are encouraged to consult both the US and UK CoC when developing MPARs, if applicable. However, the MPAR should at least be completed IAW the dates below, which will then be recorded on JPA during the raising of the NSAR. A copy of the MPAR can be found here.
Non-JPA Access – Non-Standard Appraisal Reports (NSARs). The use of the NSAR format is to be used where access to JPA does not allow reporting through the Subjects JPA workflow. The PMM is responsible for ensuring the NSAR is loaded onto JPA. The PMM will issue the latest NSAR template along with specific MS guidance to each subject as appraisals are raised.
Timely Completion of ARs. 1st ROs should be completed in accordance with the reporting dates table below. Delays in finalising reports may have a significant impact on an individuals promotion / career aspects. Although the PMM will hasten reports, it is the responsibility of Subjects and RO’s to ensure appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
Non-JPA Access – Data Capture Sheets (DCS). The PMM will generate a Data Capture Sheet (DCS) for all BDSUS personnel who do not have JPA access to complete annually. It is the Subject responsibility, in conjunction/consultation with their 1st RO to complete the detail on the form and return it to the BDSUS PMM in a timely manner. The responsibilities and objectives are to be completed in consultation with their 1st RO. Once the BDSUS PMM has uploaded the information onto JPA they will return a draft NSAR and Front Page populated with the DCS information. This needs to be checked for accuracy and acknowledged by the Subject so it can be amended if necessary.
